I made some more progress on the Buell/Yoshimura conversion today. I've been procrastinating about this since last September when I became totally disheartened working on the Buell with all its broken Torx heads and seized bolts.
It built up in my head that fitting the exhaust was going to be a nightmare. The crux of the issue was that the join between the existing header pipe and the silencer is a really tight radius and it bends in two directions. I had visions of having to cut a dozen individual pie-slices of exhaust pipe and weld them all together. It was a head-wrecker and I wasn't into it. I have a short attention span...
However, I discovered that by offsetting the silencer to the left I could use a single bend. The radius is still a bit tight but by cheating the way the pipe enters the silencer I could get it to work. And then I discovered that this lined up nicely with the bolt holes in the underside of the motor that had supported the old silencer.
And then it just sort of fell into place, and little by little it turned out not to be very difficult at all...
Yoshimura Buell Adapter (Part 1)

Front and rear mounts all welded up and ready to go.

Front and rear mounts in situ.

Front mount. Robust!
Rear mount. The Arno Strap will be replaced with a big jubilee clip as soon as I get one.
Tight!
The silencer only touches the bike at the front and rear mounts, There's a pleasantly snug 5mm clearance around everything else including the side-stand bracket.

Tomorrow I'll weld up the join and start it up! I'm curious to hear what it sounds like...
