Apparently, CHiPs (1977-1983) was originally conceived as a vehicle to revive H.R. Puffnstuff's flagging career. However he was axed from the show after just one episode following a clash of egos with Erik Estrada and rumours of LSD abuse on set not entirely conducive with a family entertainment show about California law enforcement.
